On August 16, 2012,  a Palestinian American man went to pay respects to his deceased father at Evergreen Cemetery in Illinois and was horrified to see anti-Muslim hate graffiti on a number of Muslim graves. Evergreen Cemetery is home to at least 500 Muslim graves.  Cemetery officials and the police have been notified.

Gravestones were covered with slurs such as “rag head,” “pig,” “murderer,” “liar,” “fuck you,” among many other things. The vandalism took place after several attacks in the United States on Muslim “grounds,” one of many in Illinois alone. Several mosques had been attacked earlier in the week. A mosque in Joplin, Missouri had been burned to the ground, severed pig parts had been thrown at a mosque in Southern California, a mosque in Rhode Island was badly vandalized and another mosque in Oklahoma was attacked with paintballs. In Morton Grove, shots were fired at a mosque and a bottle of acid was thrown through the window of an Islamic school in Lombard, Illinois. Many of these attacks went unreported or unlinked by the media.

This is all taking place throughout the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which is coming to a close end.

Could disrespect and hate get any uglier?
